Work and Income (WINZ) Support

1. Advance on benefit: If there's something you need that you can't afford at the time, such as an electricity or heating bill debt for your home, you may qualify to get an advance on your benefit. You need to return that money, and there are certain conditions, so please discuss the details with your case manager.

2. Special need grant: This benefit can help with urgent expenses when you really have no other way to pay, such as a health emergency, bedding purchases, or food purchases. If you want to know more about this benefit, contact your case manager.

3. Temporary additional support: If you are experiencing hardship and need help to cover your daily essential expenses, such as electricity bills or accommodation expenses, and you have no other way to cover these costs, contact your case manager. Sometimes it is possible for temporary supplemental payments to be added to your benefit. This aid is for a limited time, and is subject to conditions.

4. Recoverable assistance payment: This benefit is intended for people who do not receive a primary benefit. If you need something you can't afford at the time, such as a stove or paying a late electricity bill, you may qualify for this help. You will need to return the money, and it comes with certain conditions.

5. Disability allowance: This benefit can help cover disability-related expenses that you (or your partner or child) may be facing. The disability allowance can help you afford things like regular scheduled visits to your medical provider, medications, or extra heating for your home.

6. Accommodation supplement: This benefit can help you cover the costs of renting a property, including when you live in shared accommodation with others. If you are struggling with certain maintenance costs on a property you own, you may also be eligible for the accommodation supplement. To qualify for this benefit you must meet entry requirements - you are ineligible for this benefit if you are renting a house through Housing New Zealand.
